TRIP OVERVIEW

The Altopiano di Asiago nowadays is the result of years of history leaving its mark on an awesome landscape.

We will be based at Hotel Col del Sole, a place we call home thanks to the warm welcome of the family owning this SPA hotel. We will ride daily loops on the Altopiano, Monte Grappa, and Monte Pasubio, and we will do an overnighter in a mountain hut, riding at sunset and sharing an evening in front of a campfire.

It’s going to be a mix of comfort and adventure – the best way to get introduced to the gravel adventures we love. We’ll take care of everything – you just need to ride and be amazed by this place we love so much!

For this adventure, we have decided to join forces with the enough cycling collective, who are also good connoisseurs and lovers of this very special territory.

THE TRACK

THE STAGES

STAGE 01

Giro delle Malghe and Asiago loop – 76 km | 1870 m

Morning: Ride on the Altopiano di Asiago. Giro delle Malghe and Asiago loop.
Afternoon: Hike on Monte Cengio at sunset

We kick-off our gravel escape with a classic loop starting right from the Hotel. We will visit the Southern part of the Altopiano on a panoramic road facing the flatlands. If we’re lucky with the weather we will even spot the Venice lagoon from here!
The comeback is a nice gravel up and down in the forest, eventually reaching Asiago – the main town on the Altopiano – before getting back to the Hotel from the old railway, now converted to a nice gravel cyclepath among the trees

STAGE 02

Ride on Monte Pasubio – 40,7 km | 1510 m

Transfer to Sant’Antonio del Pasubio. Ride on Monte Pasubio via Strada degli Eroi and Strada degli Scarubbi and visit to Rifugio Achille Papa and Cimitero Brigata Liguria.

We drive to the Pasubio area for one of our favorite loops. We start climbing a military road called Strada degli Eroi. It’s nice and never too steep. We will eventually reach a tunnel: get ready to be amazed when you go out from the other side. You will be riding on a cliff, in and out rocky tunnels. To be honest, something we can’t really describe in words.

We will reach the Rifugio Achille Papa and go up again to visit Cimitero Brigata Liguria, one of the most emotional memorials of WWI. Then, down again from another amazing military road called Strada degli Scarrubbi. When we get back down into the valley we can add a short loop to ride a Tibetan bridge – an exciting experience we definitely recommend

STAGE 03

Overnighter 1 – 50,9 km | 1660 m

Overnighter. We ride on the highest part of the Altopiano on the Austrian Military roads. It’s a challenging day but we have all the time to enjoy the landscapes and reach our camping spot at dusk. We spend the night together, cooking and talking in front of the campfire.

In this case, we will ride towards the Northern part of the altopiano, visiting the Austrian military roads between Cima Portule and Monte Ortigara. It’s gonna be a big day in the saddle but we have all the time, considering we will spend the night out and ride back to our hotel the following morning.

After riding back, we will have a bit of time to relax before a quick visit to the War Memorial in Asiago and a nice experience afterwards right before dinner

Today we will sleep in our tents, free camping, under the sea of stars.

STAGE 04

Overnighter 2 – 49,1 km | 720 m

We get back riding to the Hotel. The afternoon is dedicated to an experience on the Altopiano (TBD: visit to a farm or visit to the War Memorial)

After riding back, we will have a bit of time to relax before a quick visit to the War Memorial in Asiago and a nice experience afterwards right before dinner.

STAGE 05

Monte Grappa Loop – 38,4 km | 1310 m

Transfer to Bassano del Grappa to ride a loop on Monte Grappa.

Visit to the Bassano hub and Grappa museum.

Closing dinner at the Hotel

We drive again down from the Altopiano to reach Bassano del Grappa, a vibrant town at the feet of Monte Grappa. We will ride up to the big mountain via dirt roads and paved historic sections that you could have easily spotted watching the Giro d’Italia.

When we come back, we will visit the Grappa museum before heading back to Asiago for our closing dinner at the Hotel
