ALASKA

13-27 March 2026

TRIP OVERVIEW

“The first time I was there was 1999. Since that time I have turned my whole life upside down’.
Willy Mulonia.

There is a saying that goes: ‘Until you spend a winter in Alaska, you can’t say you really know it’.

We at PA-Cycling have experienced 14 winters there. And we have cycled its wilderness for over 10,000 miles (16,000 km).

Now we are ready to take you there. You read that right, we will finally take you to Alaska to ride on an endless blanket of snow, under heart-warming northern lights and on an adventure like no other.
The experience we have gained over the years and the human relationships we have built up, rubbing elbows with the locals, gives us a unique insight and knowledge of the area.

March is the perfect month to experience this: many hours of daylight, less aggressive temperatures and more compact and rideable trails.

The watchword will be: SAFETY!
But the promise will be: YOU WILL NOT COME BACK THE SAME.

This is your greatest opportunity to experience adventure as you have never conceived it before.
The adventure that will take you to the meeting with the best version of yourself.
Because it does not matter who you are. It will matter what you become after this experience.
What you will ride will be contained in a map, but what you will explore is a vast and unexplored territory: yourself!

Would you like to venture out with us?

17 March – Stage 01 — ANC-Knick Lake + Butterfly Lake Cabin — 39 km | 150 m

Trust us—don’t be fooled by the seemingly ‘short’ distances. Covering these 40 kilometers could take anywhere from four to six hours of cycling. The pace will be intentionally slow, as embracing slowness is a fundamental part of this adventure. The ever-changing Alaskan conditions add an exciting element to the ride: depending on the temperature and trail conditions, the terrain might allow for faster movement or require more deliberate effort. It’s all about adapting to the rhythm of nature and savoring every moment of this unique experience.

18 March – Stage 02 — Butterfly Lake Cabin Loop and survival techniques — 46 km | 230 m

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on an exhilarating 40 km loop along the scenic Happy Trails. These trails offer an incredible opportunity to soak in the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness while enjoying a rewarding ride. Once the ride is complete, it’s time for some essential survival skills! You’ll learn how to build a fire and select the ideal spot to set up an overnight bivouac.

For those equipped with a sleeping bag rated for temperatures as low as -40ºC, you’ll have the unforgettable chance to spend a night under the open sky. For everyone else, our cozy Bank House will be available as a warm and comfortable alternative.”

19 March – Stage 03 — Butterfly Lake Cabin – Yetna Station— 47 km | 140 m

We leave the serene shores of the lake and venture into the heart of the world-famous Iditarod Trail, a route steeped in history and adventure. Our journey takes us first along the Susitna River, followed by the winding Yetna River, both offering breathtaking views of Alaska’s pristine wilderness. As the day comes to an end, we’ll find shelter and a warm welcome at the iconic Yetna Roadhouse, our cozy refuge for the night.

This is where the spirit of the trail truly comes alive, making it a memorable stop on our journey.

20 March – Stage 04 — Yetna Station – Bentalit Lodge— 32 km | 40 m

The Yetna River will continue to guide our journey as we spend the day following its scenic, snowy path. Our destination is a charming lodge nestled along the riverbank, where a warm welcome awaits us.

There, we’ll meet Chanda, one of the most beloved Trail Angels of the ITI. Known for her incredible hospitality and deep connection to the trail, she’s sure to make this stop a memorable and inspiring part of our adventure.

21 March – Stage 05 — Yetna Station – Bentalit Lodge — 16 km | 50 m

Today offers a choice: embark on a loop that takes you along rarely traveled trails, perfect for those seeking solitude and adventure in the untouched wilderness.

Alternatively, you can opt for a day of peaceful rest, enjoying the cozy warmth and comfort of our lodge. Either way, the lodge will remain our welcoming home for the evening, providing a relaxing space to recharge and reflect on the journey so far.

22 March – Stage 06 — Bentalit Lodge – Talvista Lodge — 36 km | 130 m

Our adventure continues deeper into the wild as we make our way toward the Skwentna River. Today’s journey will lead us to our next stop: the Talvista Lodge, a wonderfully cozy retreat nestled in the heart of Alaska’s rugged beauty.

Along the way, we’ll pass the iconic Skwentna Roadhouse before entering the Shell Hills, where the terrain begins to rise. Here, the climb toward the majestic Alaska Range begins, eventually leading us to crown the Rainy Pass.

From this vantage point, we’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Denali and the towering Mount McKinley, a truly awe-inspiring sight that captures the essence of Alaska’s grandeur.

23 March – Stage 07 — Talvista Lodge – Yetna Station — 51 km | 110 m

Today promises to be an adventurous journey through a truly unique environment. We bid farewell to the cozy Talvista Lodge and set out on our ride back toward the Yetna River, where we’ll once again spend the night at the welcoming roadhouse that shares its name.

The day’s route takes us across a stunning plateau, offering expansive views of the surrounding wilderness. As the day winds down, we’ll descend back to the river, following a grand loop that leads us ‘home’ to the familiar comforts of the roadhouse, completing another unforgettable chapter of this Alaskan adventure.

Stage 08 — Yetna Station – Willow — 51 km | 120 m

Our final day takes us toward Willow, marking the conclusion of this extraordinary adventure. Once again, we’ll follow the paths of the Yetna and Susitna Rivers, immersing ourselves in the serene beauty of these iconic waterways.

The last 50 kilometers of the journey lie ahead—a seemingly flat route that, as always, holds its own unique challenges and surprises. It’s a day to savor every moment, reflect on the incredible experiences of the past days, and soak in the final stretch of this unforgettable Alaskan expedition.

25 March — Free day in Anchorage
