The Eroica Hispania is a cyclist celebration following the spirit and the ethos of the most famous Italian L’EROICA. L’Eroica started in 1997 because of one man, Giancarlo Brocci, who admired the values of a past cycling so much that he wanted to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, culture, and music. L’Eroica also created a foundation for the protection and preservation of the last gravel roads in Tuscany. Eroica Hispania s an event which try to seeks to recover the values and essence of the classic epic cycling trail along one of the most important areas of the world for its wine production, such as La Rioja.

The Rioja is an area not only of vineyards, but of high cultural and environmental interest and can be considered “twin” of Chianti Region, where the Eroica was born. Along the way you will pass through some of the most representative wineries of Rioja DOC, as mentioned an area not only of vineyards, but also rich in history and culture; here were created the first poems in Castilian language (modern Spanish); also very strong is the presence of the architecture of the Romanesque period.

The route will ride through castles, fortresses and watchtowers. It will coincide, in some places, with the worldwide famous pilgramage route: The Camino de Santiago.

This event is a magnification of the initial values ​​of cycling: the enjoyment of the journey, the local gastronomy and landscape. A tribute to the land and its people, in an incomparable place like the Rioja.

Willy Mulonia is the Alma Mater of this great event. After meeting Giancarlo Brocci in Gaiole in Chianti, a great dream began: being able to bring the spirit of L’Eroica to Spain in an sister region of Tuscany such as La Rioja.
