Trip Overview

Stretching 1,080 kilometres with nearly 19,500 meters of climbing, this road cycling tour of El Camino de Santiago along the northern route offers a true test of endurance and adventure. Starting in Roncesvalles, nestled in the Pyrenean foothills, the journey takes riders through the diverse landscapes of northern Spain. The route showcases the stunning Atlantic coastline, lush valleys, and towering peaks, weaving through Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia. Each region has its unique cultural flavor, with warm hospitality and a deep cycling tradition, where local cyclists are often encountered on the roads, offering friendly encouragement.

The route includes smooth coastal roads, challenging mountain climbs, and technical descents, making it suitable for experienced cyclists looking for a demanding yet rewarding experience. Each stage presents a blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks, from bustling cities like Bilbao and Gijón to quaint fishing villages and pilgrimage towns.

The centrepiece of the trip is the ascent of the legendary Angliru, a climb feared and revered in professional cycling for its relentless gradients. After the climb, the tour continues westward along rolling terrain and rugged coastlines before reaching the spiritual end of the journey in Santiago de Compostela, where the iconic cathedral marks the finish line for both pilgrims and cyclists alike.
